Equipment Cleaning Procedures

A.M.I. HAL-Doppler II

1) To clean the main unit, use a damp cloth and then wipe with a soft dry cloth.

2) Clean the probe holder/light source assembly before and after each use by washing the inside of the cylinder using a brush to remove all debris. Clean the outside with a soft sponge.

3) Being careful to arrange the cable so that the connector remains dry, high-level disinfect the probe holder/light source assembly by soaking in Cidex™ Activated Dialdehyde Solution according to the manufacturer's directions. Within the limits stated in the manufacturer's directions, the physician may select the appropriate immersion time based on the degree of risk of cross-infection. Cidex™ Activated Dialdehyde Solution is a product of Johnson & Johnson Medical Inc.

4) Following immersion in Cidex™ Solution, thoroughly rinse the probe holder/light source assembly by immersing it completely in three separate copious volumes of water. Each rinse should be a minimum of 1 minute duration. Use fresh portions of water for each rinse. Discard the water following each rinse. Do not reuse the water for rinsing or any other purpose as it will be contaminated with glutaraldehyde.

A sterile water rinse, using sterile technique when rinsing and handling, is recommended when practicable, and should always be employed before use in immunocompromised patients. In other situations, a high quality potable tap water rinse is acceptable. A high quality potable water is one that meets Federal Clean Water Standards at the point of use. A final rinse using a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution is useful to speed the drying process and to reduce the numbers of any organism present as a result of rinsing with potable water.
