Professional Education Workshops FY21: Adapting the consumer experience in the time of Coronavirus

CJ Medical is committed to facilitating and promoting Innovative technologies supported by education. CJ Medical has been focused on the inevitable recovery of our professional workshops since the covid pandemic hit in 2020.

The face-to-face professional education workshops for consultants were an important component of our offline communications prior to the lockdown that resulted from COVID-19. During the workshops, we trained consultants in the use of our surgical technology, HALO™, ATOMS®, Stretta® & Secca®

Facilitating the zoom webinar feature we built our first online educational webinar in December 2020. By integrating the online element, we learned that we were able to host more workshops, thereby training more Consultants whilst eliminating the need for travel. This has proven extremely successful.

The Stretta® procedure is a safe and effective treatment option for patients who suffer with Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) and wish to consider an alternative to medication or surgery for acid reflux. Stretta Centres are now available throughout the UK, find your nearest Stretta Centre

In 2021, 52 Consultants were trained in the use of our equipment. A total of 29 of these Consultants have been Stretta trained by Professor Viswanath YKS.  Professor Viswanath is a recognised world-wide expert in diagnosis and treatment in patients with acid reflux. Professor Viswanath undertook his post-graduate training at the Northern Deanery in the Tyne and Tees regions and had further training in Leeds for advanced laparoscopic surgery. He has been a practicing consultant since 2001 in General Surgery at James Cook University Hospital where he is currently the Upper Gastro-Intestinal Lead and the Cancer Lead clinician for the trust.

Sales Director  comments “Peer-to-peer live surgical training workshops are crucial, both for educating surgeons in the use of innovative technologies designed to offer patients better treatment options and outcomes, as well as supporting the growth and development of MedTech companies.

Covid19 had a detrimental impact on the ability to run such workshops. However, working with determined and forward-thinking training experts such as Professor Viswanath, using online platforms such as Zoom, and re-designing the ‘Live’ Surgical Workshop agenda to suit an online-based course, provided an extremely successful solution. Ultimately allowing CJ Medical to offer highly valuable Workshops, and offer them more frequently as the elements usually associated with the ability to attend had been taken from the equation, such as travel, etc.

We are hugely grateful to Professor Viswanath and James Cook University Hospital for their support in facilitating the Professional Workshops. In the absence of their assistance the landscape of treatment options for patients and consultants would look completely different.’’
