Celebrating The Rascals at Valley End CC

Last month, The CJM and CRF team had the wonderful opportunity to visit The Rascals, the dedicated disability cricket team and community program of Valley End Cricket Club.
The Rascals are made up of players of all ages and disabilities. The squad trains every Sunday morning all throughout the year, playing most of their cricket in the all-weather pitch, as well as the on the outfield during summer. The Rascals offer their players a consistent and supportive environment, often making it more than just a game for their members and families, it’s a source of joy, structure, and connection.
The Charles Reynolds Foundation awarded a £1,000 donation, and special Legacy Trophy for The Rascals. These grant funds will go to upgrading their all-weather pitch, allowing for safer and better games for the team, and help towards a live stream camera set-up that will allow The Rascals to watch their games live or afterwards when they play on the outfield. The contribution will also go towards extra kit needs for The Rascals, and other external expenses on game days, to help reduce the pressure on parents.

The coaches at Valley End Rascals plan a VECC Rascals disability cricket festival each year, where several hubs of the disability cricket programme come together at Valley End for a fun and inclusive day of cricket. At this event the ‘Charles Reynolds Foundation Award’ is awarded to the winning team each year. The trophy is held victorious for the year and returned to be competed for again at the following festival.
