Juliana Edu-Aguong Nguema

Associate Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Urology

West Middlesex Hospital (Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust)

This grant allowed Juliana to attend the European Association of Urology Nursing Association (EAUN) Conference in Madrid, Spain throughout March 2025. The conference focused on advancements in urological nursing, particularly emphasising on integrated oncology—an area increasingly relevant to the care of our urological cancer patients

This conference also fostered networking with CNS colleagues from across Europe providing valuable perspective on how the CNS role is evolving within cancer services. Many teams shared examples of innovative practice such as virtual tumour boards, nurse-led clinics, or the routine use of holistic needs assessments to guide care planning.

Juliana commented ‘Overall, the conference reinforced my belief in the critical role CNSs play in delivering integrated, holistic care. It provided me with a renewed sense of purpose and practical strategies to support service improvement in key areas such as survivorship, patient engagement, and psychosocial support’.

Juiana also made the following acknowledgements – ‘I would like to express my sincere thanks to The Charles Reynolds Foundation for its crucial contribution that enabled me to attend my first international conference. Its support for the development of urology nursing is truly remarkable. My manager Juliette Van Wijgerden, for her ongoing support during the application process. I am also especially grateful to Mr Mathias Winkler, for providing a letter of support, and to Mr Samuel Bishara, for taking the initiative to organise an online fundraising event that helped raise additional funds. Finally, I extend my heartfelt thanks to The Urology Foundation for awarding the grant, making this valuable professional development opportunity possible’.
